Here's the jacket of my fall '07 picture book,
Pssst!. It's to be released at the beginning of September by Harcourt. It's the story of a day at the zoo, and what happens when the animals start asking for favors. And it's got penguins in it, which I understand the kids like. More images from the book to come.
This looks sweet! I want to read it.
ReplyDeleteOh Man! This is awesome! I like the ice cube :) The ape is nice too! It's all good!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, you're a book-churning-outing machine! I especially like the turtle and the fatty Adam Rex pebguin. Neeeeeato! Also, I put a ton of junk on my blog, so now it's not as skimpy as it once was. You keep doing great stuff, as always.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read the book! The cover is great; extremely well designed and fun to look at. I think it's an interesting contrast between the realism of the animals and the more cartoony hooman. On the other hand, maybe the gorilla would look cartoony to a gorilla, so maybe it's just my perception. And I can't even imagine how the guy in the gorilla suit would view this.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff!
In this case I will judge a book by it's cover. Fantastic!!!!, I love the gorilla and the turtle.
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys!
ReplyDeleteThe contrast between the animals and human was very intentional, Ted, and I'm glad you noticed it. It's a reflection of the whole idea that a more simplified character is also more sympathetic and familar. A greater number of people can relate to the character.
This probably works for animal characters, too, but in a weird way I think animals are automatically more relatable. They don't look like you, but they don't look like anyone else, either, so they don't push us aside. I hope I'm making sense.
What a charming cover! Wonderful job Adam!!
ReplyDeletewhoa! I *love* these animals
ReplyDeleteOK... What are the sloths doing?
