Need a Recommendation
An elementary school teacher friend of mine, who teaches 2nd and 3rd graders, needs age-appropriate books about toy design. Design, invention, toy testing...anything along those lines, I think. All I could come up with is Marla Frazee's Santa Claus: The World's Number One Toy Expert, and it's a little lean on real-world information.

Secret Science Alliance by Eleanor Davis
It's fiction and it's more about inventing in general than it is about toys. But it is a GREAT book.

The way toys work by Ed Sobey - I have this in my teen section and it's a bit older, but it would work with some help from an adult - and it might have a helpful bibliography.
Try "The Unusual Mind of Vincent Shadow" by Tim Kehoe. It's a fiction tale about a boy who invents crazy toys. It's a quick read and includes a book of the crazy inventions. It's good for kids 5 - 10.
Maybe, just maybe: If I Built a Car by Chris Van Dusen.
