Rescued a Some Kind of Scarab Beetle Out of My Pool Today.

Surely now Lord Anubis will let me into the afterlife.

Yes. Yes indeed. This selfless act surely shows how pure and light your heart is. Well done, young one. Well done.

As long as it's not one of those nasty Asian Beetles. Whoever decided to introduce them to the US should be shot!

It's very pretty. I wonder what kind it is.

Had lot's of those beetles flying around during summers growing up in L.A. but not til the 70s, someone told me they're Japanese Fig beetles, but I couldn't tell you for sure. They are really pretty and when they die and the ants dismantle them and leave unwanted pieces lying around your yard, you find out their shells are just as pretty on the inside as they are on the outside.
There's also a smaller more numerous gold colored type that were out every summer from when I was very young that everyone called June bugs, but maybe that's just a "catch all"? Dunno...

I moved somewhat recently to Ventura, CA. from L.A. and the gold beetles are up here too as I happily discovered on the 4th of July at a fireworks exhibit in Oxnard when while sitting on the grass with other folks picnicking in a small park, a bunch of beetles proceeded to emerge from the lawn just as it began to get dark.
That was like bumping into an old friend you hadn't seen in years in the same town you had just relocated to and finding out they had been living there for years.

It was also fun watching the various reactions of other people making the discovery that them critters was crawlin' from outta the ground...
