Book-alikes

I love this. The True Meaning of Smekday readers Stacy (mother) and Zoe (daughter) decided to let me know that Zoe IS that book's protagonist, Gratuity Tucci. And I'm not going to argue with them, are you?

Above is their approximation of the illustration that opens the book, below is the book's closer.

This made me wonder if anyone else out there ever looked at one of my books and thought Hey, his Frankenstein looks just like my Uncle Whoever or Wow, the way he draws Billy Twitters reminds me of my classmate, Whatsisname. Anybody got any photographic proof of something like that? Or maybe you just think one of my characters looks like a politician or celebrity. If so, send pictures or links to adamrex(at)earthlink(dot)net.

That is adorable. And this also seems like a good place to let you know that I have been talking up SMEKDAY to everybody I meet ever since I read it for the first time last year. It's one of the funniest, cleverest, most unexpectedly touching and insightful books I've read in ages -- and also great fun to read out loud, as I did to the delight of my boys when our family went to camp last summer. Months later, my middle son and I still quote lines from the book to each other and giggle.

Thanks for writing such a wonderful story. Gratuity and J.Lo will live in my heart forever.

This is awesome.

Sounds like you are truly getting a following for Smekday! My 4 year old was tugging at my pant leg the other day and screaming: "Mommy! You be J.Lo!, you be J.Lo!" I had no clue what she was talking about, till I saw her pointing at the promo page you created for it, (I downloaded it at www.smekday.com/10reasons.html, for those of you who do not know what I am talking about). I forgot I had printed it and taped it to my little cubicle because I thought it was hysterical. Well, apparently so do my kids, as they have taken to reciting it all, taking turns being J.Lo. and Gratuity, -- which I find "hilariously mortifying!" :)

PS: My 7 year old totally got the "terrible man-lizard" joke on your name... Maybe your target audience is stretching in both ends?

Wow, Nuria! That's the best thing I've heard in days. I wish I could see them act it out.

R.J–That's the second-best thing I've heard in days. Thanks so much for spreading the word. I'll be on the lookout for your book.

Hi Angela!
